Speed Unit Converter
Convert bit rates and byte rates with decimal SI prefixes. Mbps is not the same as MB/s.
| bps | 1.00000e+8 | |
|---|---|---|
| Kbps | 100000 | |
| Mbps | 100.000 | |
| Gbps | 0.100000 | |
| B/s | 1.25000e+7 | |
| KB/s | 12500.0 | |
| MB/s | 12.5000 | |
| GB/s | 0.0125000 |
1 byte = 8 bits. Mbps is megabits per second. MB/s is megabytes per second. This converter uses decimal SI prefixes (1 Mbps = 1,000,000 bits/s).
What does this tool measure?
The converter changes between bit-rate and byte-rate units using decimal SI prefixes. One byte is eight bits, so 100 Mbps equals 12.5 MB/s before protocol and service overhead.
How do I use it?
- Enter a non-negative value.
- Choose the source unit.
- Choose the target unit.
- Copy the converted result if needed.
How should I read the result?
Lowercase b means bits; uppercase B means bytes. Network plans commonly use Mbps, while file transfers often show MB/s.
What are the technical limits?
A unit conversion is exact under the stated decimal convention, but it does not predict real download speed or account for overhead.
Frequently asked questions
How many MB/s is 100 Mbps?
12.5 MB/s using decimal SI units, before transfer overhead.
Is Kbps the same as KB/s?
No. KB/s is kilobytes per second and is eight times the equivalent numeric rate in kilobits per second.
