How Much Internet Speed Do I Need?
Add the bitrates of the tasks that run at the same time, then leave headroom. One HD stream plus browsing often fits in 25 Mbps. A 4K household with calls often wants 100 Mbps or more and a usable upload.
Count concurrent uses
Two 4K TVs and a video call are not the same as one laptop.
Upload is part of the need
Working from home fails on a tiny uplink even when download is high.
Verify with a test
Plans are maxima. Measure evenings, when congestion is more likely.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need 1 Gbps?
Only if many devices download huge files at once or you want short install times. Most interactive uses saturate far earlier.
Does mobile data need the same?
The same bitrates apply, but caps and radio conditions differ. A test uses data.
